Paterson man accused of trying to kill 2 cops is acquitted

A jury acquitted a Paterson man Tuesday of trying to kill two city police officers who, prosecutors say, were fired at while chasing a suspect after seeing him rob someone at gunpoint.

Quashon Kearney AquittedQuashon Kearney broke down in tears as co-defense counsel Kenyatta Stewart, of Newark, put his arm around him after the jury foreman announced the “not guilty” verdict on all charges — two counts of attempted murder, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, one count of unlawful possession of a weapon, one count of resisting arrest and one count of robbery.
